News and Announcements
The CH50+HL gives senior hockey players a chance to play competitive hockey in a recreational setting.
The emphasis is on good clean hockey. Anyone who persists in dangerous play or abuse of officials or other players after one warning may be ejected from the League with no refund of fees.
Due to COVID-related concerns, and until further notice, our games this season will be on Tuesday and Saturday nights at the Cleveland Skating Club (“CSC”) in Shaker Heights.
We will also have some pre-season open skates, limited to roughly 20 skaters per session, at CSC. These will be announced by separate e-mails that will include a sign-up sheet. These open skates will be an extra $15/skater/session, payable at the rink.
The Cleveland Heights rink is not open for any adult rec leagues. We will instead skate at CSC until Heights resumes adult rec leagues. Nobody knows when Heights will resume adult hockey. It may not be until next season.
In non-COVID years, our plans are for 4 teams, with each team having up to 13 skaters plus a goalie. If enough players sign up, then the League may expand to 6 teams with 12 – 13 players each. Each team is slated to play 21 regular season games. All teams will make the playoffs. There will also be pre-season, holiday, and end-of-season open skates.
This season, due to COVID, we will open registration and see how many skaters we get. We need a minimum of 44 registered skaters (11 per team) to make a 4 team league work. As usual, rosters will be limited to 13 skaters per team.
If we don’t hit our minimum registration number of 44 skaters, we will scale back to a 3 or 2 team league, depending upon how many people have registered, and will proceed with 21 games for each team in a reduced league.
Also, CSC has strict COVID protocols. You will be expected to follow them. They are available in the CSC Forms box to the left.
CSC will also require you to sign a separate old-fashioned paper release as a pre-condition to skating there. This form is also available at the CSC Forms box.
The registration fee 2020 – 2021 is $335. This is a $330 ice time fee plus a $5 credit card processing fee.
We will eventually offer a sign-up sheet for jerseys and socks. This is being done separately this year in order to expedite the registration process. We expect that 2 jerseys (one blue, one white) and a set of socks will cost about $85. Players keep their jerseys and socks, and will re-use them in future years, as all teams wear blue (home) or white (away) for all games.
Goalies in full pads are not charged any fee, unless they want a jersey.
Goalies must register manually with a traditional hard copy registration form.
The League is open to the following players:
1. Intermediate and novice (“B” and “C”) skaters (men and women) who are at least 50 years of age by December 31, 2020.
2. Women skaters under age 50 and men skaters between ages 47 and 50 if those persons appear to be a good fit based on their skill levels and the overall competitive balance of the League.
3. Goalies can be of any age if approved to play by the League.
Advanced “A” level skaters will not be allowed to enter or continue in the League.
Because goalies rotate between teams, advanced “A” level goalies may be admitted to the League on a permanent or substitute basis if it appears likely that they won’t adversely affect the League’s overall competitive balance during the course of a full season.
As noted, each team will play approximately 21 games, with games this year on Tuesdays and Saturdays at CSC. Some Tuesdays and Saturdays will be off due to holidays, weather conditions, rink conflicts, or other rink-related issues. In addition, all teams will qualify for the playoffs.
Games times will vary. However, CSC will usually give us start times as early as 7 p.m. on Saturdays, and between 8:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Registration will be fully electronic this year for all players except goalies.
To register, go to the registration button and follow the prompts.
Also, subject to player eligibility and disciplinary rules, the following apply:
• Registration will be on a “first come, first served” basis. TRANSLATE: If you register late, you may be denied a roster spot.
• Whether we have a league of 2, 3, or 4 teams depends upon how many people register.
No refund will be granted unless: i.) Requested by e-mail on or before 2020 October 23, or, ii.) You signed up too late to get a roster spot.
Send any refund request to the league commissioner at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Refunds will be limited to ice time fees. If you buy jerseys and/or socks, you keep them.
We need a firm cut-off date in order to manage our budget.
When e-mailing a refund request, please have your e-mail system ask for a “read receipt” or “delivery receipt.” This is for your protection. If there’s any doubt about when you sent an e-mail, the League will conclusively presume that you didn’t timely ask for a refund.
All refunds are subject to a $10 processing charge.
